Helping Schools Transform Their Bully Societies into Compass

Jessie Klein, author of “The Bully Society: School Shootings and the Crisis of Bullying in America’s Schools” and Assistant Professor of Sociology/Criminal Justice at Adelphi University, will explain the main tenets of school bullying behavior including school status conflicts, cyber-bullying, violence against girls, and adult bullying. She will talk about the culture of despair in schools where children are increasingly feeling overwhelmed and helpless, and, in some cases, prone to violence. She will also offer concrete solutions that will help schools transform from a bully society to a more compassionate community.
