Peter Singer is Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics in the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University, a position that he now combines with the position of Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne. His books include Animal Liberation, Practical Ethics, The Life You Can Save, The Point of View of the Universe, and The Most Good You Can Do. In 2014 the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute ranked him third on its list of Global Thought Leaders, and Time has included him among the world’s 100 Most Influential People. Annabella Pitkin is Assistant Professor of Buddhism and East Asian Religions at Lehigh University. Pitkin received her BA from Harvard University and PhD in Religion from Columbia University and has lived and traveled extensively in the Himalayan region, China, India, and Nepal. Her research explores Tibetan Buddhist miracle narratives, biographies of Buddhist masters, trans-regional dynamics linking the Himalayan region to South and East Asia, and the impact of modernity on Tibetan Buddhism. Her current book project is titled Beggar Modern: Modernity, Renunciation, and Love in the Life of a 20th Century Tibetan Buddhist Saint.
