This talk will reveal the latest science of self-compassion as taught by Stanford Medical School and how that science can be put to practical use in the daily lives of New Yorkers.
The following topics will be addressed in the lecture: What is self-compassion, and how is it different from self-pity, self-esteem or self-centeredness? How can we use self-compassion to feel more connected to not only ourselves but also to others? What do the newest psychology and neuroscience research have to say about the benefits of self-compassion as opposed to self-criticism? How do those two affect the body differently? This lecture will address self-compassion as an inherently rewarding viewpoint and skill that can be developed, focusing on its effect on health, happiness and well-being. Attendees will also learn some easy ways to begin integrating self-compassion into their lives.
