Preview Screening of Stan & Ollie

Reel Pieces presents a preview of Stan & Ollie, an endearing bio-pic about the world’s most famous comedy duo, Laurel & Hardy.

Guests include the film’s stars—Steve Coogan (Stan Laurel) and John C. Reilly (Oliver Hardy)—as well as director Jon S. Baird.

While Stan & Ollie begins in 1937 (the height of their movie popularity), it unfolds mainly in 1953 with the pair’s final music hall tour of the U.K. and Ireland. The arrival of their wives turns the film into an ensemble piece: Variety noted that “Reilly and Coogan may obviously hog the spotlight here, but a secondary, more peppery personality duel between Shirley Henderson and Nina Arianda, both ideally cast as the comedians’ contrastingly skeptical wives Lucille and Ida, more surprisingly lands many of the film’s loudest laughs.”
